Editorial status: source review completed August 30, 2026. We checked NordVPN’s current US pricing, renewal disclosures, privacy notice, no-logs audit history, protocol documentation, feature list, refund terms, and device limit. A fresh QuickVPNs app, speed, leak, kill-switch, and streaming retest is still pending, so this review does not publish measured performance or unblocking claims.

NordVPN review: the quick answer

NordVPN has one of the stronger public evidence trails in the consumer VPN market: a detailed privacy notice, repeated no-logs assurance work, security assessments, established protocols, and clear plan disclosures. It is a serious shortlist option for buyers who value documented privacy controls and a broad feature set. The main caution is commercial rather than cryptographic: introductory prices rise sharply at renewal, and several extras sit above the Basic tier.

What we changed in this 2026 review

The previous page presented speed, latency, Netflix, P2P, and competitor figures as QuickVPNs test results without a preserved raw evidence pack. We removed those claims. Product documentation can establish how a feature is designed; it cannot establish how fast the service will be on a particular connection or whether a streaming platform works today. New measured claims will require the baseline, location, protocol, app version, server choice, raw runs, medians, timestamps, and screenshots defined in our VPN testing method.

Privacy policy: what NordVPN says it does and does not process

NordVPN’s privacy notice, updated July 20, 2026 when checked, says the VPN service does not store browsing activity, traffic logs, used bandwidth, or originating IP addresses. It also describes operational data that should not be collapsed into the phrase “no data.” Last-session information is used to enforce concurrent-session limits and is deleted within 15 minutes after a session ends. NordVPN also processes whether the service was used within the previous 90 days for abuse prevention and chargeback disputes.

The notice separately describes technical app data, including general device and operating-system information, app version and settings, connection attributes, crash data, and service configuration. Optional analytics and advertising data depend on user consent and platform. Extra products create extra data flows: for example, the notice says Dedicated IP links account information to the assigned address, while Smart DNS requires storage of the IP address used to activate it. Read the sections for the exact features you plan to enable.

What the audit history proves — and what it does not

NordVPN’s no-logs evidence page (nordvpn.com/features/no-log-vpn/) says its practices have undergone six independent assurance reviews: the first two by PricewaterhouseCoopers and later work by Deloitte, including a sixth review covering the end of 2025. NordVPN also reports broad Cure53 security work covering applications and infrastructure in 2025. That repeat cadence is useful evidence because it examines dated systems and processes instead of relying only on marketing copy.

An assurance review is still bounded by its period, scope, access, and reporting terms. It does not guarantee every future release, server, employee action, or optional feature. Our score rewards the repeat audit history while keeping the privacy notice’s operational-data disclosures visible.

Protocols and security features

NordVPN’s current feature documentation lists NordLynx, OpenVPN, NordWhisper, DNS leak protection, and an automatic kill switch. NordLynx is based on WireGuard and is the default in most NordVPN apps. OpenVPN remains available when compatibility or a mature open-source protocol matters. NordWhisper is intended for restrictive local networks, but NordVPN says it is not compatible with Meshnet, Dedicated IP, or Onion Over VPN servers.

Threat Protection naming and capabilities vary by plan and platform. The pricing page distinguishes the VPN and DNS-based protection included with Basic from broader anti-malware and monitoring features in higher tiers. Do not infer that every advertised security extra is present on every device or inside the lowest-cost plan.

Speed, leaks, kill switch, and app test status

QuickVPNs has not completed a reproducible August 2026 NordVPN performance run. We therefore make no current claim about download loss, upload loss, latency, reconnect time, DNS or WebRTC leaks, kill-switch behaviour, battery use, or fastest location. NordLynx’s WireGuard foundation is an architecture fact, not a substitute for measurements on our own connection.

The next test will record the unprotected baseline, device and operating system, app and protocol versions, selected servers, at least three runs per route, medians, leak-test output, forced disconnect behaviour, and original screenshots. Until that pack exists, comparisons with Surfshark, Proton VPN, or ExpressVPN remain qualitative and source-based.

Streaming and P2P status

NordVPN markets streaming access and provides specialised P2P servers, but availability can change by account, platform, server, location, and the third-party service’s enforcement. QuickVPNs has not preserved a current logged streaming matrix or P2P transfer run for this update. We do not claim a Netflix-library count, universal access, buffer-free playback, or a measured torrent bitrate. Check the relevant service terms and local law before use.

Apps and simultaneous connections

NordVPN’s device-limit documentation allows up to 10 simultaneous device connections on one account. It notes a same-server protocol condition and explains that a configured router consumes one device slot while protecting devices behind it. App availability is broad, but feature parity should be checked for the exact operating systems in your household.

NordVPN pricing and renewal terms checked August 30, 2026

The US pricing page (nordvpn.com/pricing/) showed the following two-year introductory offers when checked. These are time-sensitive checkout facts, not permanent recommendations. Taxes may apply, and the provider says renewal prices can change with advance email notice.

TierInitial term shownInitial total shownAnnual renewal shownWhat changes
Basic27 months$94.23$139.08/yearCore VPN and listed base protections
Complete27 months$121.23$219.48/yearAdds the currently listed security and storage extras
Prime27 months$202.23$296.28/yearAdds currently listed identity-protection services, subject to eligibility and terms

The page displayed monthly equivalents of $3.49, $4.49, and $7.49 by spreading each introductory total over the 27-month term. The charge is the total, not a month-to-month commitment. NordVPN also displayed a 30-day money-back guarantee for the initial purchase. Read the renewal explanation and cancellation terms before checkout.

Why the editorial score is 8.25/10

Scoring areaScoreEvidence and limitation
Platform security9/10Repeated privacy assurance work, reported security assessments, established protocols, and documented controls
Risk-free and refund terms8/1030-day initial-purchase guarantee; large renewal jumps require attention
Services and features9/10Broad feature and platform coverage; tier and platform differences remain
Customer support7/10Support documentation is extensive, but QuickVPNs has not completed a current response-quality test

The simple average is 8.25/10. This is an evidence score, not a current speed or streaming score. We will recompute it after the hands-on test instead of preserving the old 9.0 rating by default.

NordVPN alternatives to compare

  • Surfshark review: compare when unlimited simultaneous connections and household value lead the decision.
  • Proton VPN review: compare when open-source apps, privacy documentation, and a free tier matter most.
  • ExpressVPN review: compare audited Lightway evidence, device support, and premium renewal pricing.
