Editorial status: source review updated October 11, 2026. We checked Surfshark’s current US pricing, plan structure, renewal wording, privacy policy, 2025 Deloitte assurance report, transparency report, protocol documentation, feature availability, device policy, refund terms, and the official 2026 Black Friday affiliate brief. A fresh QuickVPNs app, speed, leak, kill-switch, and streaming retest is still pending, so this page does not publish measured performance or unblocking claims.

Surfshark review: the quick answer

Surfshark remains a strong shortlist option for households that want unlimited simultaneous connections, a broad app range, and a low introductory total. Its privacy case is more useful than the old “cheap and fast” pitch: the provider publishes clear short-lived connection-data rules, a 2025 Deloitte no-logs assurance report, and a quarterly transparency report. The main pricing caution is that the public page says long plans renew annually at the applicable renewal price without displaying that future amount in the captured comparison.

Black Friday campaign: Surfshark’s affiliate brief schedules Surfshark One at $2.49/month on the two-year plan with three extra months from October 12 through December 1, 2026. The campaign block on this page is date-controlled and disappears automatically outside that window. The live checkout remains authoritative.

What we changed in this 2026 review

The old page described speed, streaming, P2P, ad blocking, and competitor results as QuickVPNs tests without a preserved raw evidence pack. We removed those measurements and experience claims. Official documentation can establish a protocol, device limit, policy, or plan term; it cannot prove performance on our connection. New test results will require the baseline, device, app version, protocol, server choice, raw runs, medians, timestamps, and screenshots defined in our VPN testing method.

Privacy policy: no browsing history, but short-lived connection data

Surfshark’s privacy policy (surfshark.com/privacy) says the VPN service does not store information about websites visited. It also says VPN servers temporarily process a user ID and/or IP address plus connection timestamps, automatically deleting that connection information within 15 minutes after the session ends. That distinction matters: “no activity logs” should not be rewritten as “no data of any kind.”

The same policy covers many products beyond the VPN, including Search, Alternative ID, Antivirus, Alert, and other account services. Each has its own data and retention rules. Buyers should read the exact section for every enabled product rather than assuming the VPN’s data rules apply unchanged to the full Surfshark One or One+ bundle.

Deloitte assurance and transparency evidence

Surfshark published a 2025 Deloitte ISAE 3000 assurance report (surfshark.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/ISAE_3000-_Report-Surfshark_No_Log_VPN.pdf). The described work covered standard, static-IP, and multiport VPN servers, configuration and deployment processes, privacy settings, procedures, evidence, and staff interviews. The report is dated and scope-limited; it explicitly does not provide assurance for other periods. Surfshark also describes earlier Deloitte assurance work from 2023.

The provider’s transparency report (surfshark.com/transparency-report) adds operational context. For April–June 2026 it recorded government inquiries, large volumes of DMCA requests, and one warrant. Surfshark says the April warrant resulted only in confirmation that an account existed plus available payment information, not disclosure of online-activity data. This is provider-published evidence, not an independent court-record review by QuickVPNs, but it is more informative than a warrant-canary badge alone.

Protocols and feature availability

Surfshark’s protocol documentation lists WireGuard, OpenVPN, IKEv2, and the newer Dausos protocol. WireGuard is available on major desktop and mobile apps, with Surfshark documenting an added post-quantum layer for supported app connections. Manual WireGuard configurations do not receive that layer. Dausos was limited to the macOS App Store version when checked, so it should not be presented as a universal feature.

The feature matrix lists Kill Switch on Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, and Linux; Dynamic MultiHop on Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows; and platform-specific availability for other controls. Plan and platform differences matter more than a generic checklist.

Speed, leaks, kill switch, and CleanWeb test status

QuickVPNs has not completed a reproducible August 2026 Surfshark performance run. We make no current claim about download loss, international speed, latency, reconnect time, DNS or WebRTC leaks, forced-disconnect behaviour, battery use, or CleanWeb blocking rate. WireGuard’s design goals and Surfshark’s product descriptions do not replace measurements on our own connection.

The planned retest will preserve the unprotected baseline, device and operating system, app and protocol versions, selected locations, at least three runs per route, medians, leak-test output, kill-switch events, CleanWeb sample set, and original screenshots. Until then, performance comparisons with NordVPN, Proton VPN, or ExpressVPN remain unscored.

Streaming and P2P status

Surfshark markets streaming and permits P2P use, but access can change by service, account, location, app, and server. QuickVPNs has no current logged streaming matrix or P2P transfer run for this update. We do not publish a Netflix-library count, “works with every service” language, buffer-free claims, or a measured torrent speed. Check the third-party service’s terms and local law before use.

Unlimited devices, with a trial exception

The pricing page (surfshark.com/pricing) says a paid account supports unlimited simultaneous device connections. Surfshark’s July 2026 trial documentation limits the seven-day trial to three devices; unlimited device use begins after the trial. Unlimited connections reduce licence counting, but they do not guarantee identical features on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, browser extensions, TVs, and routers.

Surfshark pricing and the 2026 Black Friday campaign

The US pricing page displayed these 24-month-plus-three-month offers when checked August 30. The official affiliate brief received in October confirms a Surfshark One Black Friday campaign at the same $2.49 monthly equivalent with three extra months, scheduled from October 12 through December 1, 2026. Surfshark prices vary by currency, VAT, coupon, campaign, and purchase channel; the live checkout is authoritative.

TierInitial term shownInitial total shownDisplayed monthly equivalentBundle distinction
Starter27 months$67.23$2.49VPN plus currently listed Starter features
One27 months$67.23$2.49Adds the currently listed security products
One+27 months$121.23$4.49Adds currently listed data-removal and eligible identity services

The page showed a 30-day money-back guarantee. It also said the two-year subscription is charged once at the start and then renews annually, but the captured comparison did not display the future annual renewal amount. Surfshark’s terms (surfshark.com/terms-of-service) say subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled and that price changes are communicated in advance. Ask support or inspect checkout/account details for the exact renewal before buying.

Why the editorial score is 8.0/10

Scoring areaScoreEvidence and limitation
Platform security9/10Current privacy policy, public Deloitte report, transparency reporting, and documented protocols
Risk-free and refund terms7/1030-day guarantee, but the captured public comparison omits the future renewal amount
Services and features9/10Unlimited devices and broad feature coverage, with plan and platform differences
Customer support7/10Extensive help documentation, but no current QuickVPNs response-quality test

The simple average is 8.0/10. This is an evidence score, not a current speed, streaming, or ad-blocking score. It will be recomputed after the hands-on test instead of preserving the old 8.75 rating by default.

Surfshark alternatives to compare

  • NordVPN review: compare when repeated audit history and a broad security bundle matter more than unlimited devices.
  • Proton VPN review: compare when open-source apps, privacy documentation, and a free tier lead the decision.
  • ExpressVPN review: compare audited Lightway evidence and a smaller, premium-priced plan set.
