NordVPN vs Surfshark: quick answer

Quick answer: Choose Surfshark when unlimited simultaneous connections are the deciding requirement. Choose NordVPN when its ten-device allowance is enough and you prefer its longer provider-reported no-logs assurance history. We have not run a current QuickVPNs speed, streaming, leak, or restricted-network test for this comparison, so this page does not declare a winner in those areas.

Evidence checked: August 30, 2026. Prices and plan terms can change; verify the initial total and renewal at checkout.

What is NordVPN?

NordVPN is a paid consumer VPN. Its current support documentation allows up to ten simultaneous device connections and explains that a router counts as one slot while protecting devices on that router. Its official no-logs page reports six independent reviews: the first two by PwC Switzerland and later reviews, including the 2025 engagement, by Deloitte.

See the NordVPN review for the full privacy-policy and plan analysis. The review is currently official-source based; its hands-on retest remains pending.

What is Surfshark?

Surfshark is a paid consumer VPN whose current pricing page permits unlimited simultaneous device connections. Its privacy policy says browsing history is not stored and that temporary connection details are deleted within 15 minutes after the session ends. Deloitte’s public 2025 report describes the examined no-logs controls and the date-specific limits of that work.

NordVPN vs Surfshark: evidence by decision

These are durable differences supported by the providers’ current documentation. They are not lab-test results.

Devices and households

Surfshark has the simpler rule: unlimited simultaneous devices. NordVPN allows ten. NordVPN’s router option can protect a home network while consuming one account slot, so device count alone does not automatically mean buying a second subscription. NordVPN also documents a same-server protocol condition; read that rule if several devices must use the same VPN server.

Decision: Surfshark is structurally easier for large or changing device fleets. NordVPN can still fit a household that uses a compatible router.

Privacy and audit evidence

NordVPN’s advantage is cadence: its official no-logs page reports six independent reviews. Surfshark’s advantage is inspectability: the 2025 ISAE 3000 report is public and states the period and procedures covered. Neither fact proves future behavior. An assurance engagement is evidence for a defined scope and date, not a permanent guarantee.

Surfshark’s privacy policy also discloses temporary connection data and a 15-minute deletion window. That specificity matters when comparing “no logs” claims.

Plans, initial totals, and renewal

In our US capture on August 30, 2026, NordVPN Basic showed $94.23 for the first 27 months and a current annual renewal of $139.08. Surfshark Starter showed $67.23 for the first 27 months, but the comparable page capture did not display a renewal amount. This makes Surfshark’s captured initial total lower, but it does not support a blanket claim about every future renewal.

Use the buttons above to check live terms. Compare the total charged now, billing period, taxes, included products, and renewal — not only the advertised monthly equivalent.

Features and platform limits

Both providers document WireGuard and OpenVPN support plus privacy and threat-blocking features. Availability varies by app, operating system, and plan. Treat any feature that matters to you as a platform-specific requirement and verify it before purchase.

Speed, streaming, leaks, and restricted networks

Not ranked in this revision. QuickVPNs has not completed a current, reproducible head-to-head app session for these two services. Provider documentation can confirm that a feature exists; it cannot prove our own speed, leak, streaming, or censorship result. See how we test VPN services for the evidence required before those claims return.

Documented strengths and trade-offs

NordVPN

  • Ten-device allowance plus a documented router option
  • Six provider-reported independent no-logs reviews
  • Renewal amount visible in our US pricing capture
  • No free plan
  • Apps are not fully open source
  • Current QuickVPNs hands-on retest is pending

Surfshark

  • Unlimited simultaneous devices
  • Public 2025 ISAE 3000 report
  • Lower initial total in our dated US capture
  • No free plan
  • Apps are not fully open source
  • Comparable renewal amount was not visible in our captured pricing table

Who should choose NordVPN?

  • You need no more than ten direct app connections, or a compatible router covers the larger home network.
  • You place more weight on repeated provider-reported no-logs reviews than on access to one complete public report.
  • You want a clearly displayed renewal figure in the pricing flow captured for this review.
  • Its documented plan features match your operating systems after you verify platform availability.

Who should choose Surfshark?

  • You need unlimited simultaneous connections across a household or many devices.
  • The lower initial total in our dated US capture fits your budget, after you verify renewal at checkout.
  • You want to read the public 2025 assurance report and its limitations yourself.
  • You accept that specific features vary by platform and will verify your apps before purchase.

Final verdict: NordVPN or Surfshark?

Surfshark is the cleaner device-policy choice: unlimited connections remove account-slot planning. NordVPN is the cleaner audit-cadence choice: its official page reports six independent reviews and its router guidance may neutralize the ten-device cap for a home network.

For price, our August 30 US capture favors Surfshark on the initial total, but only NordVPN’s captured table exposed the comparable renewal amount. Verify both live checkouts before deciding.

We do not name a speed, streaming, leak-protection, or anti-censorship winner until the scheduled hands-on comparison is complete.

NordVPN vs Surfshark FAQ

Is NordVPN better than Surfshark?

Not universally. Surfshark has the simpler unlimited-device policy. NordVPN reports a longer independent no-logs review history and documents a router setup that uses one device slot. Your device model, platform needs, and live renewal terms decide the better fit.

Which is cheaper, NordVPN or Surfshark?

In our US capture on August 30, 2026, Surfshark Starter had the lower first-term total: $67.23 for 27 months versus $94.23 for NordVPN Basic. That is a dated capture, not a permanent price. Compare the live initial total, taxes, and renewal before purchase.

Which is faster, NordVPN or Surfshark?

QuickVPNs has not completed a current reproducible head-to-head speed test, so we do not name a speed winner. Protocol and server claims from provider pages are not substitutes for our own measurements.

Can NordVPN cover more than ten devices?

NordVPN documents ten simultaneous app connections. It also says a configured router uses one slot while protecting devices connected through that router. Router compatibility and the same-server protocol condition should be checked before relying on this setup.

Are the no-logs audits permanent guarantees?

No. An assurance engagement describes a defined scope and period. NordVPN reports six reviews; Surfshark publishes a 2025 ISAE 3000 report. Both remain point-in-time evidence, not proof of every future configuration.
